Amazing Photos

Normally, I wouldn't do this but these are such gorgeous photos about our history and especially Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah & other states.

Breathtaking landscape: A view across the Shoshone Falls, Snake River, Idaho in 1874 as it was caught on camera by photographer Timothy O'Sullivan during Lt. George M. Wheeler's survey west of the One Hundredth Meridian that lasted from 1871 to 1874. Approximately 45 feet higher than the Niagara falls of the U.S and Canada, the Shoshone Falls are sometimes called the 'Niagara of the West'. Before mass migration and industrialisation of the west, the Bannock and Shoshone Indians relied on the huge salmon stocks of the falls as a source of food. And the John C. Fremont Expedition of 1843, one of the first missions to encounter the falls reported that salmon could be caught simply by throwing a spear into the water.

Rodeo Time

In Reno, Nevada, it is rodeo time.  My best friend, Candace, took these pictures of the cattle drive coming into town.  She tells me that for $1400 one can go on this 100 mile cattle drive.  Apparently they furnish the horses.  While it would have been fun in my earlier years, I'm not so sure about trying it now.  

Looks to me like there are more riders than there are steers.  But, I guess it is all in the fun of doing something that was done a long, long time ago.  Make it a great weekend.  In Arizona we are heading for the 110+ degree temperatures.

Garden Stakes

Love it when I'm up early and the sun is rising making everything shine.  With camera in hand I snapped these few shots. 

And, of course, my morning friend was here.  There were a couple but I could not catch them together.
