An Oldie

I was out and about today and I came across this old car in the parking lot of the post office.  Don't know what year it is.  It has the Ford insignia on the front.  I thought it was worthy of pictures.

How would you have liked to live in the time that all vehicles were of this type?

Friends

Saturday brought rain, cloudiness & cold.  Somewhat unusual for Arizona but the rain was welcomed.  Also welcomed was some friends I had not seen in three years.  DJ moved to Portland three years ago and she was the glue to our monthly luncheons.  The other three still live in Arizona.

We had lunch at Los Olivos in Scottsdale, Arizona.  You guessed it, Mexican food.  DJ says she can't find good Mexican food in Portland.

Raining

Rain in the desert is a welcomed event.  Today, I awoke to the sounds of drizzling rain.  No thundering, no lightning, and no wind.  Just drizzling rain coming straight down.   Everything looks so clean and when the sun appears there are diamonds on the leaves of the trees & bushes that still have them.  I put out some bird seed and was delighted to see the mother cardinal arrive.  The year-round hummingbird is always here.

There were quail on top of the fence earlier but I wasn't fast enough to get the camera.

What have you seen in your back yard today?

Arizona Sunsets

I had a late appointment at my chiropractor this afternoon and on my way home, this is what I saw.

A few days ago we had some much needed rain.  Another storm is suppose to move in this weekend.  I'm hoping that we continue to get this much needed rain as our desert really needs it.

Stormy Day

A storm blew in early this morning and left us with some much needed rain.  This storm did not bring the winds and dust that the previous storms have.  As I was leaving work today, here is a view of some of the clouds.

This windmill is right dab in the middle of Cave Creek.  It seems odd that there are power/telephone lines running all around it.

PLEASE HELP  FIND THESE HORSES.

Morning Sunrise

I was fortunate enough to catch the sunrise this morning and it was so beautiful.  We are expecting a storm this afternoon/evening.  We are hoping for a little bit of rain.

Sunrises & sunsets in Arizona this time of year are so beautiful!

Fall Growing Season

In Arizona we have two growing seasons, one in the spring and another one in the fall.  August & September were a couple of the hottest months I've seen.  My tomatoes are doing well and I hope I get a fall crop.  The spring crop was so delicious.  This is my first attempt at a fall crop.  They look like they are liking the growing conditions.

We are expecting wind and possible rain tomorrow.  I'm thinking I need to wrap these so that they don't get blown to pieces.

Morning Ritual

This is the year-round resident.  He's here almost every morning, looking for a bath, food & keeping the other hummers away.  I so enjoy these lovely birds.

Honey Bees

Here's what my hummingbird feeder has been looking like in the warmth of day.

I have another feeder that I've put some netting over that the bees can't get to but the resident hummingbird knows how to get to it.  Where there is a will there is a way!

What have you been doing now that we have had a little bit of FALL weather?

Where is Fall?

In Arizona August has been one of the hottest I've experienced.  It is still staying pretty warm but there is hope it will cool off soon so that we can experience Fall.

In the meantime, my best friend, Candace, sent me some pictures of her pumpkin harvest along with her beautiful Meg.   By the way, she lives in Reno, Nevada.

What are you harvesting out of your garden this time of year?
Are you planting for winter crops?

Annual Trip

I am so enjoying the cooler weather we've been experiencing here in Arizona.   And, with it being September,  The Yavapai Cattle Growers' Association's Annual Calf Sale & Pit BBQ is Saturday the 24th.

For further information, go here.

See last year's event pictures.

If you live in Arizona, this is a great getaway.  The weather should be beautiful for visiting and making new friends.  It's cooler up there than it is here in the Valley.   Stop by and say hello.

Bees

I was out in the yard this morning puttering until I realized there were a bunch of these guys.  I decided I'd best go inside until they've had enough.  Must be that time of year because last month I couldn't find one.   This is a hummingbird feeder but not today because the birds won't have anything to do with this.

Dragon Fly

Today, I noticed that this dragon fly was hanging around the aerial on my car.   Beautiful color of orange.

What have you seen flying around in your area?

Morning Surprise

As I was making breakfast this morning, this appeared in the view of my kitchen window.  I stepped outside on the patio to take the pictures.

What did you see in your backyard this morning?
