The quilt...which is quite heavy...is made up of brands from the ranches in the county. The owner of the brand is also named and from where they hail. The size of this quilt happens to be a queen size...the exact size of my bed. I will cherish this quilt.
This is a view of one of the squares with their brand & their name.

congratulations!!! how absolutely wonderful for you :o)
ReplyDeleteAll right! Many years ago when my grandmama put together the annual Old South Day Quilt that ladies all over the community contributed squares to I always hoped that one day I would win one of them...sadly I never did!
ReplyDeleteQueenie....I am so sorry. They used to contribute the squares to this quilt but they finally stopped that. I would really like to find a quilt with my grandfather's brand on it but that was a long time ago. I'll cherish this one.
ReplyDeleteShe always made the logo square too.....and I helped her sell tickets the years we could go down and help with Old South Day....she turned over the duties several years ago and even with all the stress off her shoulders to get it done it broke her heart that last time. They still have the OSD it's been over thirty years now since the first one and boy is it as ever! Haven't been since 94....Granddaddy passed in 98 and Grandmama sold the homeplace and moved to Moultrie.
ReplyDeleteoh Joanie it is beautiful i love quilts like that and the memories you and queenie have i am sooo glad you won even if youdidnt have to restle the bull to win it heehee
ReplyDeleteDonna....U R 2 funny.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful Joani, well done on winning it! My Mum was a great quilter, I have cupboards full of quilts she made. My Dad's house is full of them too, all the beds and all the walls are full!
ReplyDeleteWow...that is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great feeling to be a winner
but really more exciting to be able to
cherish this for life since you
keep your grandfather's tradition by going
there every year! You deserved to win!! :-)
CONGRATULATIONS!
