Annual BBQ
It's September and the weather is starting to get cooler, fairs & festivals are all a buzz, and it's time for the annual YCGA's (Yavapai Cattle Growers' Association) Calf Sale & BBQ.
Since I was a child, September would be a month for excitement as this was the time for BBQs throughout the ranching community, including my grandfathers on September 16. This was a time all the immediate family, friends as well as local ranchers gathered.
The last Saturday of September is the YCGA's 80th Annual Calf Sale & BBQ at the Maughan Ranch West Fork, Peeples Valley, Arizona, U.S.A
My grandfather and his family participated and attended this yearly event. Below is a picture I discovered in the archives of Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, Arizona. He is on the left. Look at those old cars parked in the back. I never tire looking at these photos. This was sometime in the late '50s or early '60s. Some things never change!
This is the same place I will be attending the BBQ this Saturday. It is always a special place for me. Why don't you join me and make it a special place for you and yours. Their web site is HERE
Thanks for the good idea, I might just buzz up there, and also spend a little time with the grands.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great tradition!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful treasure that photo is! I have just a few special moments like that & I truly cherish them. The BBQ sounds like a great time, but we are being pulled in about 3 different directions with more company coming next week.....lol! I'm so lovin' these cooler mornings!
