New Hummingbird Feeder

I had read an article about a new hummingbird feeder that was a saucer-like feeder.  This feeder was suppose to eliminate the bees and the birds from feeding.  When the bees are around the hummingbirds can't feed because there are so many bees.

I went to Lowe's yesterday, looking for something else, and I spotted this saucer-like feeder.  I think it is way too big and the landing part is a bit far from the feeder hole for the little ones to rest  on and feed at the same time.

I'm trying it anyway.  My resident hummingbird had no trouble finding it quickly.

This is the base where you put the sweet sugar water.  It has a fill  line.

This is the top.  Notice how the filler-up hole is in the top.  You twist to open and then twist the other way to close.  Such a neat idea.

This screws into the top to hang from wherever you are wanting to put it.

Here it is altogether.   A great idea except for the distance of the landing and the feeder.

We got some much needed rain last night.  It woke me up at 2 a.m. with continuous lightening and roaring thunder that didn't seem to ever end.   This is the second good rain I've gotten here at home.  And, it hasn't washed us away.

  1. Neat looking feeder! Hope your hummers are happy and that the bees stay away. We haven't had any rain for so long it's getting critical. But I'm happy someone can get the rain!
    Enjoy your Friday!

  2. That's a really neat looking feeder. I doubt that distance is really going to deter any of them. They will just eat "on the wing" & rest on the perch -- I've seen them do this with other feeders. Is it metal or plastic that looks like metal?

  3. Interesting. I just had to take my feeders down because the red wasps wouldn't go away. I am hoping it is just the drought, but I'm afraid they have discovered it and will be back.

  4. How clever! I will have to look for this as I am a hummingbird lover. Thank you for sharing this clever device.
